Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
Barbecue joints in Atlanta ain't fancy—they tend to be off the beaten path, littered with woodpiles, and somewhere between slightly and pretty scruffy. But the best of them—among them Fox Bros.—also offer some of the tastiest, messiest, diet-breakingest food in the city. Occupying a former general store/auto mechanic shop in the renovated Victorian neighborhood of Inman Park (about halfway between Downtown Atlanta and Decatur), Fox Bros. is appropriately worn-looking, with battered but clean floorboards and lazily spinning ceiling fans. The kitchen here dishes up a mean Brunswick stew (a required Georgia 'cue accompaniment, made with tomatoes, corn, meat, potatoes, and lima beans); delicious pulled pork with baked beans; and some of Atlanta's finest ribs—hickory-smoked and pink at the bone. Other classic treats include juicy smoked brisket, homemade pimento cheese, fried pickles, and homemade banana pudding (the only dessert on the menu, and the only one it needs).
Tip: Since late-night barbecue cravings have been known to occur after visiting Fox Bros., best to take some with you: the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket are sold to go by the pound.
