Affable chef-owner Eric Greenspan is passionate about both food and music, which he brings together at his trendy yet intimate restaurant in the heart of the Melrose Avenue shopping district. Greenspan stands on the dining room side of his open kitchen, barking out instructions, schmoozing with customers, and carefully inspecting every plate before it’s hustled out to be served. His menus change frequently, but he might offer an appetizer of crispy pork belly with shellfish and piquillo peppers, followed by an entrée of braised short ribs served with heirloom tomatoes and creamed Swiss chard or Alaskan halibut with leek fondue. The main dining room—where linen-clad tables are illuminated by Art Deco light fixtures—and adjoining bar have a warm, boisterous vibe, but there are also tables available on the serene olive tree-shaded patio in back.

Tip: Don’t leave before sampling cheeses from the cave of fromager Andrew Steiner.
