Evie's Tamales & Family Restaurant

print
3454 Bagley Street, Mexicantown
Detroit, Michigan
313-843-5056

As the name indicates, Evie’s is famous for its tamales—the real meat-or-cheese-filled kind that practically fall apart with tenderness when you pop them in your mouth. The small, seat-yourself dining room is strictly no-frills, with tables covered in plastic tablecloths and a menu that rarely runs more than $5 for an entire meal. There’s no better endorsement than the knowledge that Evie’s is a favorite among cops, firefighters, and reporters.

Tip: Don’t leave before getting a piece of pan dulce, the sweet bread that Evie’s gives away free for dessert.
