West Philadelphia's Distrito serves modern Mexican cuisine in a 250-seat restaurant decorated with kitschy details like vivid pink lighting and a wall of Mexican wrestling masks. Named after Distrito Federal (Mexico City), the tapas-based menu is chef-owner Jose Garces' interpretation of standard fare like enchiladas, tamales, and tacos. The Kobe-style taco contains flat iron steak, truffled potato, and tomato-horseradish escabeche—a marinade of a Spanish seared and pickled fish. A mole (sauce) dish includes rabbit loin, yellow tomato, and pineapple. There are approximately 100 tequilas available at the two full bars, one on each floor, with marquee signs above each listing drink specials.
