Similar to an American speakeasy, this gourmet Chinese restaurant is part of a local culinary tradition known as a “private kitchen,” a secretive, largely unadvertised restaurant hidden away in a nondescript location. Situated on the 10th floor of an office building in Lan Kwai Fong, this small dining room is decorated with Qing dynasty motifs and a collection of antiques, including carved wooden screens, porcelain bowls, tabletop vases, and a vintage phonograph. A variety of Chinese tea is served between courses of inventive Cantonese fare, which may include king prawns with Dijon mustard, and deep-fried oyster rolls with raspberry-herb sauce.
