Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
Legend has it that ice cream was invented in China about 1500 years ago, so it makes sense that one of Chinatown’s oldest businesses is the Chinese Ice Cream Factory. For 28 years, this narrow, standing-room-only shop on Bayard Street has served the kind of creamy flavors unavailable almost anywhere in the country with a distinctly Asian twist, including lychee, red bean, taro root, and black sesame. In the words of its customers, the ice cream is “awesome, delicious, exquisite, smooth, delectable, exotic, and even orgasmic.”
Congratulations to Mei Lin, winner of Top Chef Season 12.
