For foodies, it’s worth travelling hours on dicey roads to get to Caffe Sicilia on the southeast coast for the unique cold patisserie dishes from chef Corrado Assenza. Establish in 1892 by his great grandfather, the café is especially popular at breakfast, which generally involves gelato or granitas with brioches and cassata. Barring scorching weather, the most popular tables are outside, where customers have charming street views of the UNESCO protected town. Sicilia also has a gift shop selling marmalades, jams, and pastes made exclusively of local produce.
