Cuban and Mexican prove a wining combination at this lively little Nolita café. The ambience starts with bright blue exterior and extends indoors with colorful tiles and a stainless steel counter, resulting in a kind of cross-cultural diner effect. While the menu is essentially Mexican, the Cuban sandwiches and fried plantains (two different kinds) are perennial favorites. It’s the grilled corn, though, that put this place on the foodie map: Topped with chili powder, melted cheese, and lime, it’s served with much-needed toothpicks on the side. The corn alone has a passionate following, so your wait may be long.
