Located in the downtown Bel Aire Plaza shopping center, this restaurant is owner Gene Tartaglia’s ode to Memphis-style slow-cooked barbecue. Previously the owner of San Francisco’s trendy Mecca restaurant, Tartaglia developed a more affordable, comfort-driven concept at BarBersQ, which is housed in a small contemporary space with white walls, polished steel, and Italian marble. In the 60-seat dining room, black-and-white photographs by John Kuss portray local businessmen and vintners. An extensive wine list complements signature dishes like the pulled pork sandwich and baby back ribs served with three homemade sauces: mild barbecue, spicy barbecue, and Serrano chile—infused vinegar.
