Despite its dark, unassuming façade and equally no-frills interior packed with mismatched furniture, the Anchor & Hope is easily one of the most popular gastropubs in the city. Located in Waterloo, within a three-minute walk of the Old Vic and virtually next door to the Young Vic, the restaurant is as famous for its no reservations policy and long waits as it is for its ever-changing, traditional English menu. With an emphasis on nose-to-tail cooking, the pub serves dishes such as calf’s brains with brown butter on toast and braised venison with red cabbage.
