"I'm jumping in with both feet on the lemon twist versus cherry debate," says Jackson Cannon of the garnish on this New Orleans classic. "I have a strong preference for a lemon twist to help balance the cocktail and magnify its flavors. Having said that, some of my dear friends prefer the cherry. I'm always happy to oblige."
- Ice
- 1 ounce VSOP Cognac
- 1 ounce rye whiskey
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1 teaspoon Bénédictine (brandy-based herbal liqueur)
- Dash of Peychaud's bitters
- Dash of Angostura bitters
- 1 lemon twist, for garnish
- Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish; stir well. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the twist.
