This Vesper variation was inspired by the Seelbach Cocktail, a bourbon drink made with Cointreau, sparkling wine and a whopping 14 dashes of bitters. Miles Macquarrie calls for a full quarter ounce of orange bitters here (he likes Regans’), which gives the cocktail a beautiful golden color.

  • 1 ounce London dry gin
  • 3/4 ounce Cocchi Americano or Lillet blanc
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau or other triple sec
  • 1/4 ounce orange bitters
  • 2 ounces chilled sparkling wine, preferably Blanc de Blancs
  • 1 lemon twist, for garnish

How to make this recipe

  1. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add the gin, Cocchi Americano, Cointreau and bitters and stir well. Strain into a chilled coupe. Top with the sparkling wine and garnish the drink with the lemon twist.
