All bourbons combine corn and other grains. Mixology consultant Josh Durr prefers this cocktail with a high-rye bourbon (one made with more rye), creating a bolder and spicier flavor.

  1. 2 ounces bourbon, preferably high-rye, such as Bulleit
  2. 1 ounce Bonal Gentiane-Quina (slightly bitter aperitif wine)
  3. 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  4. 3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
  5. 2 dashes of orange bitters
  6. Ice
  7. 1 ounce chilled club soda
  8. 1 mint sprig, for garnish
  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the bourbon, Bonal, lime juice, Simple Syrup and bitters. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Fine-strain into a chilled ice-filled collins or highball glass, stir in the club soda and garnish with the mint sprig.
