Chinotto is a citrusy, cola-colored Italian soda made from a small sour orange of the same name. Derek Brown likes using the soda in mocktails because it’s both bitter and sweet. The aromatic bitters in the drink are alcohol-based; they can be left out of the drink.

  • 1 1/2 ounces chilled chinotto (see Note)
  • 1 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice
  • 2 dashes of Fee Brothers Old Fashion aromatic bitters (optional)
  • 1 or 2 mint sprigs
  • 1 or 2 mint sprigs, for garnish
  • 1 orange twist, for garnish

How to make this recipe

  1. Fill a chilled highball glass with ice. Add the chinotto, orange juice and bitters and stir gently. Garnish the drink with the mint sprigs and orange twist.
