Strawberry-Basil Martini

The unusual combination of strawberry and basil in this martini is the work of El Salvador–born mixologist José Zepeda.

Ingredients

1. 3 strawberries, plus 1 thin slice of strawberry for garnish
2. 3 basil leaves
3. 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
4. Ice
5. 1 ounce gin, preferably Tanqueray No. Ten
6. 1 ounce vodka
7. 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

Directions

1. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberries with the basil leaves and Simple Syrup. Add ice and the remaining ingredients and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with the strawberry slice.
