The Stinger was likely inspired by Harry Johnson's 1882 New and Improved Bartenders' Manual. It combines that book's recipes for Brandy and Mint with Crème de Menthe.
Ice cubes, plus crushed ice
2 ounces Cognac
3/4 ounce white crème de menthe
1 mint sprig
How to Make It
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the Cognac and crème de menthe and shake well. Strain into a crushed icefilled rocks glass and garnish with the mint sprig.
