Reviews for Smoky Tomato Soup with Gruyère Toasts

Go back to recipe

very rich and soul-warming, definitely try this recipe.

This deliciously rich and creamy soup is the perfect accessory for a grilled cheese sandwich! I used canned whole tomatoes and half and half instead of heavy cream. It is worth the extra effort to find the right paprika called for in this recipe. I made the gruyere toasts which were nice for dipping but the grilled raclette sandwiches I also made were even better. I will definitely make this again and double it for freezing.

This was a great soup.  I used canned tomatoes because they are out of season.  I will make again.  Very smooth.  The recipe made just 4 servings.

I just made this soup and while I give it props for being easy and fast, I thought it was bland and oddly sweet. My husband thought so too.  It just didn't taste right.  The gruyere toasts were a great touch, though.  We used sourdough bread and it was the best part!

I have been making batches of this soup and freezing it for cool fall days. Very tasty and a good use of my garden tomatoes. I added about 3/4c water and omitted the heavy cream, used 3T half-and-half instead.
