The Jack Rose (applejack, lime juice and grenadine) is one of mixologist John Coltharp's favorite brandy drinks. Seven Sins is his attempt at converting it into a whiskey cocktail. He strongly recommends preparing your own grenadine: "It makes you wince at the store-bought stuff."

  1. Ice
  2. 1 ounce rye whiskey
  3. 1 ounce applejack
  4. 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  5. 3/4 ounce grenadine, preferably homemade
  6. 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  7. Pinch of cinnamon, for garnish
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and shake well. Strain into a chilled coupe; garnish with the cinnamon.
