San Gennaro

This take on the Manhattan is Andrew Pollard’s tribute to Italian American culture and the annual San Gennaro festival in New York’s Little Italy. He combines rye, a quintessentially American spirit, with three from Italy: citrusy Averna amaro, spicy Campari and the sweet vermouth Carpano Antica Formula.

How to Make a Boozy Watermelon Slushy


  • Ice
  • 1 ounce bonded rye whiskey, preferably Rittenhouse 100
  • 1 ounce Averna or Amaro Montenegro
  • 1 ounce Carpano Antica Formula or other sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 teaspoon Campari
  • 1 or 2 maraschino cherries, preferably Luxardo, for garnish

How to make this recipe

  1. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and stir well. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the cherries.
