Prescription Sazerac

  • SERVINGS: Makes 1 Drink

In this basic Sazerac variation, Mike Ryan supplements the rye with Cognac, adding a layer of fruity complexity (Cognac is made from grapes).

  1. 1/4 ounce absinthe
  2. Ice
  3. 1 ounce bonded rye whiskey, preferably Rittenhouse 100
  4. 1 ounce VSOP Cognac
  5. 1/4 ounce Rich Simple Syrup
  6. 3 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters
  7. 1 lemon twist
  1. Rinse a chilled rocks glass with the absinthe; pour out the excess. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add the rye, Cognac, Rich Simple Syrup and bitters and stir well. Strain into the rocks glass, pinch the twist over the drink and discard.
