Old-Fashioned

According to cocktail historian David Wondrich, the Old-Fashioned is a direct descendant of the earliest cocktail, which in the early 1800s consisted of “a little water, a little sugar, a lot of liquor, and a couple splashes of bitters.”

  1. 1 sugar cube
  2. 3 dashes of Angostura bitters
  3. 1/4 ounce chilled club soda
  4. Ice
  5. 2 ounces bourbon
  6. 1 lemon or orange twist, for garnish
  1. In a chilled rocks glass, combine the sugar cube, bitters and club soda and muddle to a paste. Add ice and the bourbon and stir well. Garnish with the twist.
