"Whiskey Old-Fashioned" actually refers to two cocktails. One consists of whiskey, sugar, bitters, ice and a lemon peel. The better-known, fancier version of the drink, made with muddled orange and a cherry, is listed as "Old Fashioned No. 2" in the 1934 edition of "Cocktail Bill" Boothby's World Drinks and How to Mix Them.
