Oaxaca Old-Fashioned

"This was one of the first cocktails I made using mezcal; I realized that combining mezcal with tequila was like putting tequila on steroids," says mixologist Philip Ward. "Most tequila in the U.S. is only 80 proof, and I wanted more oomph! I discovered the oomph in mezcal."

  1. Ice
  2. 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila
  3. 1/2 ounce mezcal
  4. 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  5. 1 teaspoon agave nectar
  6. 1 orange twist, flamed, for garnish
  1. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and stir well. Strain into an ice-filled double rocks glass and garnish with the flamed orange twist.
