While unsuccessfully attempting to create "a better mojito," Philip Duff came up with this aquavit-based summer-afternoon drink.

  1. Ice
  2. 2 ounces aquavit
  3. 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  4. 1/2 ounce elderflower syrup
  5. 1/2 ounce Rich Simple Syrup
  6. 2 dashes of orange bitters
  7. 1 orange twist, for garnish
  8. 5 mint leaves, smacked, plus 1 mint leaf for garnish
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnishes and shake well. Double strain into a chilled martini glass. Pinch the orange twist over the drink, rub it around the rim of the glass, then drop it into the drink. Garnish with the remaining mint leaf.
