The mix of spices that infuses the rum in this drink is Duggan McDonnell's take on masala, a traditional Indian spice blend. Every Christmas he makes a batch of the rum, pours it into mini bottles and gives them as gifts.

Recipe: Masala Daiquiri

  • MAKE-AHEAD

Ingredients

  1. 16 ounces Masala-Spiced Rum
  2. 8 ounces fresh lime juice
  3. 6 ounces Simple Syrup
  4. 12 dashes of grapefruit bitters, or 8 grapefruit twists for garnish
  5. Ice
  6. 8 star anise pods, for garnish (optional)
  1. In a large resealable container, combine the Masala-Spiced Rum, lime juice, Simple Syrup and bitters, if using. Refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour. Cover tightly and shake, then pour into an ice-filled pitcher. Strain into chilled coupes and garnish with the star anise and, if omitting the grapefruit bitters, the grapefruit twists.
