Martinez

Most cocktail historians agree that the auburn-colored Martinez, made with sweet vermouth and slightly sweet Old Tom gin, was the precursor to the dry gin martini.
- Ice
- 1 1/2 ounces Old Tom gin, preferably Ransom
- 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1 teaspoon maraschino liqueur
- Dash of Angostura bitters
- Dash of orange bitters
- 1 lemon twist, for garnish
- Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and stir well. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the lemon twist.
