According to master mixologist Dale DeGroff, a drink called the Tequila Daisy was served at Tijuana’s Agua Caliente racetrack in the 1920s. It was made with lemon juice, tequila and a sweet ingredient—the template for a Margarita.

1 1/2 ounces blanco tequila
1 ounce Cointreau or other triple sec
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
How to Make It
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, Cointreau and fresh lime juice and shake well. Strain the drink into a chilled coupe.
