When Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur hit the market in 2007, Jeff Berry thought it would mix well with falernum, which is spiced with ginger and clove. It did. For the dark rum, he likes to use Demerara rum because of its "smoky, charred-wood taste."

  1. Ice
  2. 1 1/2 ounces white rum, preferably Virgin Islands
  3. 3/4 ounce ginger liqueur
  4. 3/4 ounce Velvet Falernum
  5. 1/2 ounce dark rum
  6. 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
  7. 1 spiral-cut lime twist, for garnish
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and shake well. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish with the twist.
