Made with either vodka or the more traditional gin, the lime-spiked gimlet was created by an early 20th century British naval surgeon to combat scurvy.

  1. Ice
  2. 3 ounces vodka
  3. 1 1/4 ounces fresh lime juice
  4. 1/2 large pasteurized egg white (optional)
  5. 1 heaping teaspoon powdered sugar
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the ingredients, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass.
