Garrick Gin Punch

  • SERVINGS: Makes about 24 drinks

This is an adaptation of a 19th-century recipe from London's Garrick Club, whose members must be voted in. According to the original screening committee, "it would be better that ten unobjectionable men should be excluded than one terrible bore should be admitted."

  1. One 1-liter bottle chilled genever
  2. One-half 750-ml bottle maraschino liqueur
  3. 48 ounces Lemon Syrup
  4. 16 ounces Simple Syrup
  5. 64 ounces chilled sparkling water
  6. Ice, preferably 1 large block
  7. 2 small sliced oranges, for garnish
  1. In a punch bowl, combine the genever with the maraschino liqueur and both syrups. Refrigerate until chilled, about 4 hours. Stir in the sparkling water, then add the ice and garnish with the oranges.
