"I love the way the Calvados and gin work together," says Ryan Fitzgerald of the unlikely combination of spirits in this early-1900s cocktail. His version plays up the apple brandy's flavors and the gin's piney scent.

  1. Ice
  2. 1 1/2 ounces London dry gin
  3. 1 1/2 ounces Calvados
  4. 2 dashes of absinthe
  5. 2 teaspoons grenadine, preferably homemade
  1. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients and stir well. Strain into a chilled coupe.
