This cocktail features the bitter Italian liqueur Fernet-Branca, made with around 40 different barks, roots, herbs and spices. Fernet-Branca's recipe has been a secret since the first batch was produced in 1845.

  1. 1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey
  2. 3/4 ounce St-Germain elderflower liqueur
  3. 1/4 ounce Fernet-Branca
  4. 4 ounces hot apple cider
  1. In a heatproof mug, mix the rye with the elderflower liqueur and Fernet-Branca. Stir in the cider.
