"Coffee has a much more complex flavor than most people realize," says mixologist Sebastian Reaburn. He brings out its nuances here by adding sage and orange peel.

  1. Ice
  2. 5 cardamom pods
  3. 3 ounces chilled brewed coffee
  4. 1 ounce fresh orange juice
  5. 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
  6. 1 sage sprig, plus 1 sage leaf for garnish
  7. 1 ounce chilled club soda
  8. 1 orange twist, for garnish
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the club soda and garnishes and shake well. Double strain into an ice-filled highball glass and stir in the club soda. Garnish with the remaining sage leaf and the twist.
