Reviews for Chicken Tikka Masala

Go back to recipe

I am pretty disappointed...Not sure if I am right, but there seems to be a typo in the recipe. It reads to put in 1.5 tablespoons of garam masala. This seemed a bit much to me when I was cooking, but I ignored my instincts and put it all in. BIG MISTAKE. The taste of garam masala was extremely overwhelming- it was almost all I could taste. I could tell the recipe would have been a good one, if not so over powered with the garam masala. Typo or not, I STRONGLY recommend not using 1.5 tablespoons...start with a teaspoon and taste test from there. Secondly, for those not used to spice, beware, this is rather a spicy dish. Great for me...not so great for my parents. Decrease cayenne and chile powder measurements if not keen on spice.

Really great recipe, and it just gets better as leftovers. I added more cayenne pepper than is called for because I like it spicy. Also - scraping the extra marinade off of the chicken was kind of a pain, next time I don't think I'll spend as much time doing that - I don't see what the point is.

This is a great recipe.  We live in San Francisco, and eat out 2/3 of the time from the hole in the wall mom & pop places to the 5 stars, we have grown up with Indian friends, eating home cooked meals as well as out at Indian restaurants.  Whenever we make this recipe everyone - including our Indian friends -  ask for the recipe.  We always qualify it as "Tikka Masala Napa Valley Style" before we serve it, and we haven't had any complaints, even from people who are more meat and potato types.  We do admit to adding a little bit more of the spices than this calls for - but that is a matter of taste and easy enough to fix to your taste as you are cooking.  Noticed many people booked it as a favorite, but only a couple of reviews - and we think it needed more props in the reviews than it seems to be getting.

This is a terrible recipe BECAUSE their is a typo. The ingredients for the chicken is what they have under masala marinade, and vice versa. Do it the right way and it shouldn't turn out so bad.

Truly terrible. Very bland, with an extremely runny sauce. I will never make it again -- it bears no resemblance to any other chicken tikka masala I have ever had and is not worth the effort.

This is a perfectly reasonable Massala - but there are many out there.  For Alandau - the reason this bears no resemblance to Indian food, is beacause, as any Trained Chef with even half a "star" will tell you is because it was invented in England By Bangla Chefs (from Bangladesh) btw - I am a professional chef, in an "Indian" restaurant, In England and have made at least 6 variations of this dish on 6 different menus - one was even close to a Kurma, and bright red in colour!

i was very disappointed with this recipe.  I feel that it has almost no similarity to real indian food.  Both of my parents are professionally trained 5 star chefs and they would never make this recipe after trying it.  i must say i expect more from food and wine.

This recipe is so delicious, it's my 7-year old son's favorite dish. I usually double the recipe because everyone wants more than one serving.
