Cherry Blossom Brocade

  • SERVINGS: Makes 1 Drink

While Chris Hannah loves making classic cocktails, he also enjoys tinkering with them to come up with new drinks. The licoricey Cherry Blossom Brocade uses three ingredients that weren’t available in the US when the Brandy Crusta was invented a century and a half ago: whiskey-like Dutch genever, Heering cherry liqueur and absinthe.

  1. 1 lemon wedge
  2. Sugar
  3. 1 long strip of grapefruit zest, for garnish
  4. Ice
  5. 1 1/2 ounces genever, preferably Bols
  6. 1/2 ounce Heering cherry liqueur
  7. 1/4 ounce absinthe
  8. 3/4 ounce fresh Ruby Red grapefruit juice
  9. 2 dashes of grapefruit bitters
  1. Moisten half of the outer rim of a chilled rocks glass with the lemon wedge and coat lightly with sugar. Arrange the grapefruit zest in the glass. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the genever, cherry liqueur, absinthe, grapefruit juice and bitters to the shaker and shake well. Strain the drink into the prepared rocks glass.
