When looking for a pairing here, Peter Kasperski suggests a Lagrein—a fragrant, velvety wine originating in northern Italy—that will make the moist chicken and salty soppressata topping the fluffy gnocchi taste even better. He likes the inky 2006 J. Hofstätter, but for an interesting twist, try an American version, like the lush 2004 Santa Barbara Winery Joughin Vineyard.
