Blackened Orange
- SERVINGS: Makes 1 Drink
Longtime Seven Grand bartender Leo Rivas came up with the Blackened Orange, which John Coltharp describes as super-intense. Amaro Nonino gives the drink a rich bitter-orange flavor, plus hints of licorice and herbs.
- 1/4 ounce smoky single-malt Scotch, such as Islay
- Ice
- 2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1/2 ounce Campari
- 1/2 ounce Amaro Nonino or other amaro (Italian herbal liqueur)
- 2 dashes of orange bitters
- 1 orange twist, flamed, for garnish
- Rinse a chilled coupe with the Scotch; discard the excess. Fill a pint glass with ice. Add all of the remaining ingredients except the garnish and stir well. Strain into the prepared coupe and garnish with the flamed twist.
