Directions

1. Simmer 2 1/2 pints of blackberries or blueberries with 1/4 cup of water, 1 1/2 cinnamon sticks and 3/4 cup of sugar until the berry juices are released and the sugar is dissolved. Let cool. Strain the berry syrup into a glass jar and add 1 pint of brandy. Cover and set the shrub aside for at least 1 month. Serve in a tumbler over ice, topped with still or sparkling water and a slice of lemon.
