Basil and Cinnamon Syrup

  • SERVINGS: makes 1 cup

  • MAKE-AHEAD
  1. 1 1/2 cups water
  2. 3 tablespoons sugar
  3. 1/2 cup finely shredded fresh basil
  4. One 2-inch piece of cinnamon stick
  5. 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Add the basil and cinnamon and simmer over low heat until reduced to 1 cup, about 10 minutes. Cool to room temperature, then strain. Stir in the lemon juice.
Notes One-Quarter Cup Calories 39 kcal, Carbohydrate 10 gm. Serve With Peaches, nectarines and all kinds of berries.
