Bargoens Buck

  • SERVINGS: Makes 1 Drink

PDT • Manhattan

Bols genever was first produced in Amsterdam in 1664. Lindsay Nader, who tested all of the drinks for F&W Cocktails 2011, created this cocktail as a nod to that era. "Bargoens" refers to a Dutch slang spoken in the 17th century, mainly by thieves and drifters.

  1. Ice
  2. 1 1/2 ounces genever, preferably Bols
  3. 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  4. 1/2 ounce Gran Classico Bitter (bittersweet herbal liqueur)
  5. 2 dashes of Angostura bitters
  6. 1 ounce chilled ginger ale
  7. 1 half orange wheel, for garnish
  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the genever, lemon juice, Gran Classico and bitters and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled collins glass, stir in the ginger ale and garnish with the orange wheels.
