This homemade version of Old Bay is equally spicy and zippy, but far less salty. Use it on fish, shellfish, chicken and pork.

  • 2 tablespoons celery seeds
  • 2 tablespoons mustard seeds 
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons paprika 
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt 
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper 
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 
  • 1 bay leaf, crushed 

How to make this recipe

  1. In a spice grinder, combine all of the ingredients and pulse until finely ground. Transfer to a small bowl.
