Pesto Pasta

Pesto sauce is traditionally made with garlic, pine nuts, basil, olive oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese. We love to spread pesto on sandwiches and stir it into vegetable soups, but this flavorful sauce is best on pasta. There are a lot of great ways to mix up classic pesto-–use walnuts or almonds instead of the pine nuts, or swap parsley or mind for the basil. One of our favorite pesto variations is to use Tuscan kale–it gives the sauce a health boost, and still stays true to Italian flavor. Add lemon zest, Aleppo pepper and plenty of garlic before tossing the sauce with a pasta of your choice–we’re partial to rigatoni, but this pesto would truly be delicious on anything.
