A Delicatessen Lunch
Friends and relatives who live outside of New York often bemoan the local lack of true delicatessen food. This menu allows one and all to experience the missing taste sensations in their own home, with the attitude of the traditionally crabby waiter optional. A nice bowl of chicken-noodle soup will fix whatever ails you. For a change from sandwiches, try a salad with strips of corned beef, lettuce, rye-bread croutons and homemade Thousand Island dressing. There is only one real deli dessert: creamy cheesecake. Our version is baked slowly at a low temperature and can be made up to four days ahead. Treat your guests to an authentic New York deli experience and place the soup bowls on the table with the surliest expression you can muster.
