Smoothie bowls, frosé, 1-ingredient banana "ice-cream"—the greatest hits of your Instagram feed wouldn't exist without an army of small appliances behind them, motors buzzing and blades whirring. Driven by the passion and spending power of food-savvy, "wellness"-conscious millennials (research from the 2016 International Home and Housewares Show revealed that one in three millennials planned to buy a blender last year, twice the number of boomers or gen-xers), a device once used primarily by nutritionists, baby-food DIY-ers, and milkshake slingers has moved out of the shadows and into the spotlight.
