W Hotel, French Quarter
After a $9 million renovation, this urban property blends W’s cutting-edge style with sense of place design by architecture firm Nemaworkshop. This means public spaces have chic, modern furnishings as well as only-in-New-Orleans décor, such as reoccurring images of the city’s voodoo queen Marie Laveau. The W’s 97 guestrooms are decked out in one of two styles: Beds look like tuxedos thanks to cummerbund throws and bowtie pillows in the jazz rooms; in tarot-themed spaces, a queen of pentacles image extends from the floor onto the ceiling.
