Hotelier Liz Lambert has injected this formerly dilapidated 1950's motel with some quirky modern style, juxtaposing contemporary design with Western touches. The redesigned building, painted blue to match the desert sky, wraps around a central pool surrounded by shaded mesquite-topped tables and native ocotillo cactuses. The 24 rooms have pecanwood platform beds draped with handmade South American wool blankets, polished concrete floors with cowhide rugs, and walls hung with works by local artists. Harkening back to the hotel's vintage, guests can also borrow Polaroid cameras, record players, and old-school typewriters. The hotel is currently expanding into an adjacent building, which will add 16 rooms, a bar, and an additional pool.
