Bora-Bora—the name alone evokes an exotic paradise that entranced the likes of Marlon Brando in the 1970’s and has continued to seduce high-end travelers with the opening of luxe resort after luxe resort. Now a new set of A-listers is discovering the island, thanks to the opening of the 100-room St. Regis, Bora Bora. It’s no wonder. With 76 thatched overwater villas, outdoor showers, a fleet of butlers, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten behind the restaurant, and a spa set on its own island, the resort reaches high levels of indulgence. Thankfully, it also doesn’t take itself too seriously. The humorously named Lagoonarium is filled with native fish and is ideal for snorkeling. And for a flashback to the seventies, there’s a swim-up bar in the pool.
