The north fork of Long Island—a 30-mile strip of oceanside plains dotted with farms and boutique wineries—is the quiet alternative to the nearby Hamptons. Overlooking trellises of grapevines, the four-room Shinn Estate Farmhouse is a place of respite for urban epicures. Proprietors David Page and Barbara Shinn gave the circa-1880 building a makeover last year, and their sunny B&B—with floors lined in pine, fir, and oak—exudes a city-meets-country grace. The breakfasts showcase seasonal produce, and maple bacon that Page cures himself. But the main event here is the wine, from a crisp rosé to a fruity Sauvignon Blanc–Sémillon blend, all produced in small batches on the estate.
