Staying at the Parador de Plasencia, I certainly felt like a king, or at least a grandee. Nourishing the fantasy was the grandeur of the public spaces and everything in them, including an antique choral book it would take a forklift to carry, carved candlesticks taller than a man, and polished pewter pitchers and tureens with the potbellies to serve hundreds.
