COST: $$$$$

Despite the fact that this adults-only (guests must be 13 or older), all-inclusive resort is just a few miles from Playa del Carmen, visitors need never leave: there's tennis, sailing, biking, even basketball, not to mention a piano bar, cooking classes, and of course, pools everywhere, as well as scheduled activities like shuffleboard that bring to mind an old-school cruise. Overlooking the ocean, solarium decks with oversize canopied beds unfurl next to dazzling villas bedecked with Spanish-style columns; dark lattice-wood headboards and alcoves displaying Mexican art ground the airy effect of beds piled high with creamy gold-and-brown pillows.

Insider Tip: There are six restaurants and three bars, but don't forget to order from Las Ventanus, run by young star chef (and former rocker) Sergi Arola, who was hired away from a much-buzzed-about restaurant in Madrid to serve up signature avant-garde twists on Spanish cuisine.

Room to Book: Villa 24 is the closest to both pool and beach.
